Our second release from Kenya is a bright and vibrant AA separation from the Kianderi factory. This coffee is very lively and expressive, tasting of red and white currant, rhubarb, and amaro. It has a mouthwatering acidity and lovely sweetness with complexity that builds as it cools. We can't get enough of this one.

Kianderi washing station is located on the foothill of Mount Kenya, just outside of the town Kerugoya. This western part of Kirinyaga borders Nyeri, and has some of the most fertile soils in the country. The Kianderi factory is part of the Inoi Farmers Cooperative Society.

Processing Details:

Cherries are picked at peak ripeness and then delivered to the factory where they are hand-sorted--and the underripe, insect-damaged, and defective cherries are removed. The cherries are then pulped, and the parchment is fermented overnight. Once the fermentation is complete, the parchment is washed and separated. The farmers from this cooperative take the pulp of the cherries back home and mix them with cow manure, which is then used as fertilizer in the farms.
