Kenya | Kiamagumo AB
Washed Field Blend
This coffee comes from the Kiamagumo factory, located in the Ngariama community within Kirinyaga County. Situated at an altitude of 1600 MASL, Kiamugumo processes cherries from local smallholders who cultivate SL-28, Ruiru 11, and Batian varieties. This AB lot is exceptionally flavorful and sweet, with a refreshing bright acidity. We taste notes of currants, stone fruit, piney florals, and the brightness of lemonade and rose hips.
The Ngariama area is characterized by a long chain of mountains, offering diverse altitudes and terrains ideal for coffee cultivation. Farms here are small, typically ranging from 1 to 2 hectares. Sourcing quality coffee from Kenya has become increasingly challenging in recent seasons, but this lot embodies the qualities we’ve always cherished in Kenyan coffee.
Cherries are collected at peak ripeness and sorted by hand before they are pulped. The seeds are then fermented for 12-24 hours in fermentation tanks under shade. After fermentation, coffees are washed and graded by density in washing channels before heading to the drying tables where they are dried on raised beds for 5-10 days.
