We taste: Blackberry soda, wine grapes, black currant
Region: Kirinyaga, Karithathi Farmers Co-op
Varietal: 99% SL-34, 1% Ruiru 11
Altitude: 1650 MASL
Harvest: November-December 2020
Our final Kenyan of the year is an AB lot from the Kiunyu factory in Kirinyaga. Interestingly the farmers who deliver their cherry to this factory grow 99% SL-34 and 1% Ruiru 11. We feel this coffee captures the classic Kenya acidity that we really love. We taste darker fruit flavors like blackberry, grape, and black currant with refreshing effervescent acidity. We find also some interesting florals that remind us of black licorice.
Kiunyu Coffee Factory is located within the Kirinyaga district of the Central province of Kenya. Kiunyu factory serves the members of the Karithathi Farmers Cooperative Society. Established in the 1960s it serves the villages of Kagumoini, Kianduma, Kiambuuku, Kiambatha, Gatura, and Kiamuki.
