We will be donating 50% of the revenue made from this coffee, Gatomboya, to a local organization called PT Partners. They are a grass-roots, community-led organization in the Black Feminist Tradition located in Bridgeport, CT. PT Partners aims to rebuild community in PT Barnum Apartments and to gain the resources necessary to make it a healthy, safe place to live. Their vision is to work towards empowering their residents and leaders to dismantle systemic and institutional oppression in their lives and community. We encourage you to learn about, follow along, support and donate to their mission!

This is an AB lot from the Gatomboya Factory in Nyeri, Kenya. The lot is made up of SL-28 and SL-34 grown at 1700-1800 MASL.

Gatomboya is a Kikuyu word for “swamp,” referring to the nearby Gatomboya River, which is used to wash and ferment coffees at the factory before they’re dried on raised beds. Over 1,300 farmers contribute to this factory with 800 tonnes of cherry delivered every season. The Barichu Farmers cooperative society operates a coffee shop on its premises catering to travelers on the highway. The income allows the society to reduce their overhead thereby increasing the farmer’s income.

Buying green coffee can be tricky and comes with a certain level of risk. Sometimes coffee doesn't taste quite the same once it reaches our roastery as it did when we purchased it while at origin. This current Gatomboya AB is an example of that. We were looking for it to fill a certain lively, fruity, "Kenya-like" spot on our menu. It doesn't do quite that, as its a bit more mellow than expected. However- we still want to share this coffee with you because its very much worth brewing and drinking! And we've discounted it a bit! It's really quite sweet, approachable and pleasing!
