We are thrilled to release this beautiful lot from the Kanzu washing station located in the Nyamasheke district of Rwanda's western province. This coffee is incredibly balanced showing soft notes of hibiscus, candied ginger and florals. It's a very approachable and pleasing coffee.
Kanzu has received a lot of support and in 2012 was purchased by Dormans, who invested heavily in the infrastructure and training of farmers to improve quality.
After arriving at the washing station, cherry is floated and pulped using a McKinnon disc pulper. The coffee in parchment then gets dry fermented for 16-18 hours before the remaining mucilage is washed off, followed by soaking. Typically this takes up to 18 hours before the coffee is dried on raised beds allowing for air circulation.
The harvest season in Rwanda runs for about 4-5 months, and lots are separated by each week's outturn. This specific lot was harvested in August 2019.
