Las Margaritas 26 Washed Johel Gesha
Las Margaritas 26 is located in Santa María de Dota, Tarrazú, at 2,000 MASL, one of the highest elevations for coffee production in the region. This lot is seperation of Gesha, harvested in May 2025. Upon first tasting this coffee we were blown away. The cup is incredibly complex, clean and floral with ripe fruit notes and great structure. We are tasing ripe peach up front as well as lavender and orange. As the cup cools we find lasting and lingering bergamot with layers and layers of complexity.
The farm is owned by Emmanuel Solís and named after his firstborn daughter. Once used primarily as grazing land for dairy cows, the site was considered unsuitable for crops due to its cold climate and extreme conditions. Emmanuel saw potential in planting high-quality varieties at altitude and gradually introduced Gesha, SL28, and other cultivars. As his coffee trees grew, the climate got warmer creating an ideal climate for his plants. Emmanuel is calling this lot "Johel" Gesha, as he got the seeds from Don Johel of Hacienda San Isidro del Labrador.
Cherries are picked at peak ripeness, floated and immediately pulped and mechanically demucilaged. The seeds are then wet fermented in plastic tanks with fresh spring water for 24-36 hours. The seeds are then agitated and rinsed, then moved to raised drying beds where they dry for 10-12 days.
