Ethiopia | Danche

The Danche washing station was established in 2019 by Neguesse Debela and has since become one of our most anticipated coffees from Gedeb each year. Around 800 local smallholders, farming at elevations of up to 2,200 MASL, deliver their cherries to the station for processing. This year's lot is exceptional, offering clean, refined fruit with layered complexity and a pointed acidity. In the cup, we find notes of watermelon, ripe peach, lemon-lime, and delicate florals.

Danche is managed by one of our exporting partners, SNAP. Founded in 2008, SNAP operates multiple washing stations in key areas of Ethiopia. Each year, some of our favorite lots are sourced through SNAP. This season’s washed lot from Danche is a prime example of what we look for in clean, fruited washed coffee. We will also be sharing a honey lot from Danche later this year.

Cherries are collected at peak ripeness. Once floated and sorted, they are depulped, and the seeds undergo dry fermentation for 96 hours. After this stage, the seeds are thoroughly rinsed and moved to drying tables, where they are dried on raised beds for 12-14 days.
