Peru | Oropel Espresso
Washed Field Blend
Oropel is a community within Junin made up of a small group of smallholder producers. Each farm is situated between 1,800–2,000 MASL, with land sizes ranging from 3 to 5 hectares. This is a blend of Caturra, Typica, and Bourbon, harvested in August 2024. The cup is rich and comforting, with great sweetness and a full mouthfeel. We are tasting flavors of drinking chocolate, sweet fig jam, currants, and baking spice.
Peru is a newer origin for us, and we’re still gaining experience sourcing from this region. However, we’re becoming more familiar with the diverse profiles coming out of the country. The region of Junin in central Peru is home to diverse ecosystems, cultures, and high altitudes. The community of Oropel, located in the Pangoa district of Satipo province, benefits from the unique combination of these ecosystems, creating ideal conditions for high-quality coffee production
Cherries are hand picked at peak ripeness and floated to remove defects before being depulped. The seeds are then dry fermented for 15-36 hours in a wooden tank, washed to remove the mucilage and dried on raised beds for 10-13 days.
